Leith Refurbishment
Private client Leith, Edinburgh UK Adaptation & Refurbishment
Client Location Category
The development of a derelict attic space enabled a full restoration and refurbishment. The clients wish to create a luxury venue for short term lets or holiday accommodation with the history of the building at its core. The rich interiors and re-use of existing materials and knitting together of new and old has given the near derelict spaces a new lease of life while servicing the modern demands of living and enjoying Edinburgh.
The attic, once inhabited, had seen better days. With the addition of dormers taken from historic precedent and a new rooflight, we opened up the historic pend staircase to bring light down into the circulation spaces. Combined with a rich interior of retrieved material and furniture complements the retained features and enhances the unique character of the spaces.
Uncovering the gas lamp fittings, historic fireplace and the pend staircase stonework in tact are all part of the journey, the features these become are intrinsic to how we approach all our projects, leaving just enough room for the undiscovered and imperfect.
